Art Lovers is a programme of guided tours and interviews at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. It is curated and organised by Johan Nieuwenhuize for The Lighthouse.
Artists are being invited to come to THUAS to show their work to students and other people who love art.
In collaboration with The Lighthouse Nieuwenhuize developed the idea, the programme and the communication strategy, including the photography for the internal campaign.

Art Lovers #1 Roland Schimmel (NL)
A guided tour by artist Roland Schimmel about afterimages and the research his conducting for his art

Art Lovers #2 Rob Hornstra (NL)
Rob Hornstra and Johan Nieuwenhuize delve into Hornstra’s expansive and thought-provoking projects on Russia, as well as other endeavors. How do you classify portraits without losing sight of the subjects’ identities? And what does it mean for Hornstra that he’s barred from Russia due to his art?

Art Lovers #3 Christian van der Kooy (NL) and Igor Chekachkov (UA)
How do artists manage to create such remarkable pieces amidst the turmoil of the Ukrainian war? Is it a result of, or in spite of, the conflict? And does art serve as a form of expression or a mere survival tactic for them? We’ll be treated to captivating photography, intricate drawings, and thought-provoking magazines.

How does she, as an artist, perceive this issue, and how does it reflect in her work? And what’s the connection between a Chinese rain rocket, Antarctica, and building your own boat?

Art Lovers #5 Marjan Teeuwen (NL)
How can you create physically overwhelming installations with waste? How are the mesmerizing photographic images of this unique work part of the artist’s work? How do you stand your ground as an artist while working in a conflict area? What does it mean for an artist when your work is being demolished after some time?
