The Hague University of Applied Sciences is not the most obvious place to come across an art collection but the main building at the Johanna Westerdijkplein houses a special collection.
The collection holds works by Andreas Gursky, Bertien van Manen, Elspeth Diederix, Lawrence Weiner, Liza May Post, Stephan Balkenhol and Wijnanda Deroo, among many others.
In 2021 the Hague University aimed to add to its art collection with a new, up-to-date artwork which fits in with the existing collection as well as with the experiences of the community and in particular those of the students at The Hague University.
In collaboration with social designer Jennefer Verbeek Johan Nieuwenhuize formulated the new art commission, Just a Few Seconds.
Winner of the Art Commission is Bram De Jonghe. Nieuwenhuize supported De Jonghe during the production proces of his project ‘Mussel Works’ and ‘Sealed Rain’.
The artworks were officially presented to students, teachers and art lovers on Thursday, February 16th 2023,
Just a few Seconds was made possible in part by the Mondriaan Fund.
